Certified Spanish translations are used across Peru's legal and administrative system — before courts, before notarios públicos (notarías), and before government agencies that handle civil status, property, and corporate matters. In all cases, the certified translation must carry the translator's identifying information, post-firma seals, and a declaración jurada. We avoid asserting city-level or agency-specific institutional rules that we cannot source; instead, we deliver a CTP-certified translation that meets the recognized national standard and arrange notarization when a specific procedure or receiving authority requires it.

This is the most common point of confusion. A certified translation is the CTP-colegiado translator's attestation, delivered with their colegiatura number, post-firma seals, and a declaración jurada. Notarization is a separate notarial act by a notario público; whether a particular procedure requires the translation itself to be notarized is procedure-specific, so we arrange it when the receiving authority asks for it rather than asserting a blanket rule. A sworn (TPJ) translation is yet another distinct concept — a translation signed by an MRE-appointed Traductor Público Juramentado whose signature cannot be delegated. When translating contracts for use in Peru, every legal term must have its precise Spanish equivalent. "Indemnification" becomes "indemnización," not "compensación." "Force majeure" — already borrowed from French — has specific meaning under Peruvian civil law and must be rendered accordingly. Governing-law clauses, arbitration provisions, and liability limitations all have established Spanish legal equivalents that Peruvian attorneys and adjudicators expect. A power of attorney (poder) is one of the most frequently translated legal documents for foreigners with interests in Peru. Whether you need someone to manage a property matter while you are abroad, represent you in a proceeding, or handle banking on your behalf, the power of attorney must be precisely translated, and many procedures will require it to be notarized as well. The language in the document determines the scope of authority granted, which is why even small translation errors can have significant consequences. Buying or selling property in Peru as a foreigner involves translated documents at several steps.
